The7 15 and Update Policy Changes

The7 15 is a new generation of The7. It is built on a new architecture, with a modular FSE-first foundation and full compatibility with existing The7 websites. Existing websites do not need to be rebuilt.

The7 15 is an opt-in upgrade. If your website is running The7 14, it will continue to work with the installed version. However, The7 14 is now a legacy version and will only receive security and essential maintenance updates.

What changed in The7 15

Before version 15, The7 was primarily a classic WordPress theme that could be switched to FSE mode.

Starting with The7 15, The7 uses a modular FSE-first architecture, while keeping Elementor, WPBakery, and Custom modes available for existing non-FSE websites.

This gives The7 a cleaner foundation for future FSE and Elementor v4 development and makes the theme package significantly smaller. The current The7 15 package is already about 30% smaller than The7 14, with more optimization planned.

The7 14 becomes the legacy version

The7 14 will continue to work on existing websites.

However, The7 14 is now a legacy version and will only receive security and essential maintenance updates.

It is important to note that ThemeForest purchase verification and update delivery depend entirely on the Envato API. Once the Envato API is discontinued, we will no longer be able to release The7 14 updates.

To upgrade a website to The7 15 and receive new features and compatibility updates for future versions of PHP, WordPress, WooCommerce, Elementor, WPBakery, and other plugins, activate a direct The7 plan.

Why update access is changing

For many years, ThemeForest was a sustainable channel for selling one-time licenses and funding ongoing The7 development.

That is no longer the case.

Envato has increasingly shifted buyer attention toward its Envato Elements subscription. At the same time, one-time ThemeForest sales have been declining for years.

This decline became especially sharp in 2026.

Based on the sales data we track for leading WordPress themes on ThemeForest, the category dropped by more than 50% in just three months from March 2026.

Starting July 1, 2026, Envato revised its Market terms. For top-tier exclusive authors like us, this effectively increases the author fee from 12.5% to 50%. In addition, the visible ThemeForest item price includes a fixed $12 buyer fee that goes entirely to Envato.

We originally planned to continue shipping major The7 releases through Envato as before. However, after these changes, we can no longer continue releasing major new The7 generations under the old one-time marketplace purchase model.

We do not want The7 to become a frozen legacy product. Direct update access for new generations of The7 is how we keep development continuing, the theme actively maintained, compatible with the WordPress ecosystem, and useful for people who build and maintain websites with it.

Update access for Envato purchases

If your Envato purchase was made less than 12 months ago, your license remains eligible to upgrade to The7 15 and receive future updates until the end of the 12-month period from the purchase date.

If your Envato purchase is older than 12 months, the purchase code is no longer eligible to upgrade to The7 15.

To upgrade to The7 15 and receive new features and updates, activate one of the direct The7 plans.
